I am very excited to be working with the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) to develop a new online course called Intro Incentives.  The course will be offered June 15-16, 2016. Registration is now open.

This course will provide an in-depth look at how incentives can help communities attract, retain and develop business and industry. We will also address how incentives are used to finance neighborhood revitalization, redevelop brownfields, support workforce training and accomplish other important economic development objectives.

Participants will also consider how incentives are used in today’s economic environment and outline steps that are being taken to reduce risk and achieve better outcomes. In particular, this course will address the characteristics of well-designed incentive programs and processes to ensure meaningful impact, value, and accountability.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • Incentives in the context of the development finance toolbox
  • Incentive program design
  • Due diligence and impact analysis
  • Performance agreements and compliance
  • Elements of program evaluation
  • Improving transparency, reporting and communication
  • Trends in incentive use

We hope this course will be useful not just to economic development professionals, but also to elected officials, finance officers, bond issuers, legal counsel, underwriters, accountants and advisors.

The Intro Incentives WebCourse will take place on the web through GoToWebinar, an online distance learning software. The course will meet each day on June 15-16, 2016 from 12:00-5:00 pm (Eastern).
